#566: Musical Musings So, the video I posted in my last entry didn't win for the month of April. No biggie, hopefully we'll get picked to be a finalist in the Grand Prize based on the quality of our sound.
This Saturday, the full band, myself included, is performing in my buddy Spencer's final official gig. It's cool, they did an ARTICLE about it as an "Extra" on our local news website. Between working full time, my house work, and rehearsal, life has been hell on Earth.

This Saturday, the full band, myself included, is performing in my buddy Spencer's final official gig. It's cool, they did an ARTICLE about it as an "Extra" on our local news website. Between working full time, my house work, and rehearsal, life has been hell on Earth.
I'm hella excited though, because I've never been able to perform with Spencer's band due to my schedule, and now it's not just me, it's my brother Dennis (who produced Spencer's first album), and a good friend from Junior High and High School. We've been working really hard, and in addition to that, Spencer (hereafter referred to as "Cupcake" since that's our nickname for him) asked me to do vocal percussion on the song Love and Life that he wrote, and that I did the vocal percussion for on the album version. So, after 9 years of not performing for a live audience, I'm doing this with the band.
I'll be posting videos of the songs of course.
But here's the cool thing. Cupcake entered the songs on this website called topblip.com, where musicians do battle against one another for a chance to perform at a big event in their towns and whatnot. Well, we're in the finals, and have a 3 song set (or 10 minutes) against 7 other bands. On the website, the competition takes place via topblip votes, facebook likes, and tweets for the submitted video. We beat out Amy Whitcomb, famous from the BYU A Cappella group "Noteworthy" of Sing-Off, Season 1, and "Delilah" of Sing-Off, Season 3. So, for the final competition, ourselves and 7 other bands compete in a live show, battle of the bands style, with some guy named Dave Barnes as a celebrity judge. I've read that he's a Grammy Nominee
Here's the kicker. If we win that, we get to play for the Stadium of Fire on 04Jul, the 4th biggest Independence Day celebration in the entire continental United States of America, as well as win 10 thousand dollars. We would be the opening act for Scotty McCreery and The Beach Boys. HOLY FUCKING SHIT ON A STICK!
My brother Dennis is hella nervous, but I'm pumped. I don't know that we'll make it to the Stadium of Fire, but damn it's exciting to help Cupcake get his music out there.
Well, I gotta go to sleep. I've been up for almost 24 hour, brimming with excitement about this, about our Saturday night gig, about the competition...wow.
I gotta tell myself, "Don't worry...about a thing...cuz every little thing...is gonna be alright."
