Rant. Roar.
So. Municipal election was today. And being good citizens, we went out to vote. Or not to vote, as our case was, since we didn't like our choices.
We were not allowed to spoil our ballots.
We also used sharpies to connect the front and backs of arrows to point at the candidates we "wanted" to vote for. the sharpies showed through the back of the paper. It wasn't very secret, either.
I think if I had allowed the machine to read my ballot, it would have overloaded and blown up. I filled in every candidate for mayor. It took me a lot of effort, and then I was denied. I had to get a new ballot and start over.
I thought the point of getting people to vote was to allow people their choice. A, B, or none of the above. Voter turnout is always low, so people are encouraged to get out. Employers, by law, have to give employees 3 consecutive hours during the time the polls are open to go and vote. So why can't I vote the way I choose?
Rather than encouraging voter apathy, I took time out of my day to go out in order to be counted, not as A, or B, but as someone who voted, protesting against any of the choices. My voice was lost, because my choice was not recognized.
Instead, I got to vote for Pedro.
I also took the advice of Han Solo.
