NEW REVIEW: GRID Alright boys and girls, its been a while since I've been on so I though I'd give you all a new game review to read.
GRID is pure, unadulterated, adrenaline pumping street racing at its finest. Never before has a racing game given you so much speed all at once. From driving wheel to wheel with a 12 car pack in a new Dodge Challenger in detroit to the speed and technicality that is the Le Mans 24hrs, GRID give you every detail that is racing. From the start, you get put in a Viper GTS and must attempt to win a race that is futile if you arent used to racing games. From there, you will be a driver for hire and race for many other teams until you have the cash to start your own team. The game gets a tad boringwhen completing driver contracts as you dont get your own cars so you must use that teams vehicle. these so, however give you a nice taste of things to come. After earning the set amount of money you can now choose your own team. you start wityh the Ford Mustang Boss 429,so you can enter events specific for that cars discipline. Winning races wins you money and gives you sponsor offers, which in turn earns you even more cash each race for completing their objective such as coming in no less than 3rd. Gaining more money and respect as a team allows you to hire new drivers to earn your team more cash and you will be able to place better in events with a second drive as you will lone wolf. As I said before, this is all about the race so aside from the color scheme of your car, there are no customizable options in game. What some would expect to be a major con, this turns out to be a plus since most cars look great and drive even better. Among the many praises is the new flashback feature which allows a limited allowance to rewind and retry a small portion of the race. Say you cut a corner to close and flip your car costing you the race. You can rewind the replay about 7 seconds and take that turn differently. This segways into the AI. A very progressive and smart AI makes for a truely different race each time. forget ever taking over first place and leaving everyone in the dust al' la need for speed underground. you will constantly have to watch your rearview and drive a clean race to keep in the lead. Flashbacks are also challenging in this reguard since the cars will take a totally different line even after a flashback. these small details make the game that much more impressive. With so many pros it is difficult to find cons, but here are a few. There are many racing disciplines in GRID. The first events you get are american muscle (Plymouth AAR Cuda and Ford Mustang are here), but they range from american pro tuned (Cars like the Viper and the Challenger are found here) Euro and Japan pro tuned (Skylines and other imports here), GT1 and supercar events (Aston Martin DBR9 and the Saleen S7 are found here) and drift. Drift events are a tad similar to the NFS underground drifts, but more realistic and less "Ricer" esque. You can find drifters such as 350z's, Impreza's and the american GTO and Charger here. Thers are about another 4 events not listen, but you get whole of the events listed aboveDifficulty; easy to pick up, hard to master. The game can get quite difficult and you will wreck ALOT in your first races. Sometime is is just way too fast. when racing the supercars such as a lambo, i noticed that the speed was almost too much when you have to wheel a lambo around tight corners with 8 other supercars withing inches of you. While is said lack of customization is not a total con, some personalization would have been nice, so a few points must be deducted, but does not mar the experience in any way.
GRID is a must buy, but not for the faint of heart. if you are not a hardcore racing or car fan, consider renting first as you might find more casual racers such as the NFS or midnight club series more to your liking.
Pros: Damn, it's fast Jaw dropping visuals Great selection of vehicles from every major automotive racing country and from some of the best eras many tracks to race on and master
Cons: Damn, its fast skimpy personalization a tad repetitive in the early stages
Bottom line:
9.75\10
