So this summer has pretty much suckedEvery year us Texans expect a hot summer. I mean, temps around 105 with a "feels like" around 110. However, usually there's at least
some rain that helps bring the monthly average down to around 98 or so. Not this time. Temps have been 100 or higher for the entire month of August, and the projected temps for College Station this Saturday are 110 with a feels like of 115. Its like Iraq, only without angry people trying to kill you. And more humidity. Add those temps to the states worst drought since the 1950s, and the summer, as far as weather goes, has pretty much sucked.
In addition, I decided to take advantage of staying on campus this semester and took some summer classes. My choice of US History was a good one as me and a fellow classmate has several good debates on the Union and Confederacy once we got to the civil war. If you don't know, I support the CSA on that topic. That said, I still proudly fly a modern-day 50 star US flag on the same wall as my Texas and Rebel flags. These days, the battle flag has a lot of different meanings than the one back then, and most people forget the battle flag was not the official flag, which honor lies with the Stars and Bars. Just because you fly a rebel flag doesn't mean you hate the US, your racist, or that you hate northerners. Anyone who says so is extremely narrow minded. I especially hate people that associate it with the Nazi flag, saying that its been used by hate groups. To my knowledge, hate groups have flown the US flag to. And the Nazi flag is so widely agreed upon to be associated with Hitler and the like, while the rebel flag has all kinds of meanings to different people. As long as it continues to be disputed by different sides, there's nothing wrong with it. Don't forget that its protected under the 1st Amendment too. These days "Southern pride" is probably what you'd hear most when asked to describe it, and frankly, I see nothing wrong with that. People fought to defend the Confederates borders just like the US military fights to defend ours now, the majority of the Civil War battles were on Confederate soil too, so taking pride in that land makes perfect sense to me. Even so, Texas seems to have more pride in being a republic than being a member of the CSA, and I agree with that. Rant over. I just wish my other summer classes were as interesting as that one, both of the Art History classes I took were downright boring and had extremely difficult tests. I literally did a back flip once they were done.
That's enough yelling for one blog. I'm out. If you live outside of Texas, enjoy your rain. We could use it.
