A Great Friend; Soon To Be Great Soldier
Hello all. Rad here. As some of you know, our friend Brad (Raider, Rodge) is now off to basic training for the Marines. I was at his house at 10:30 in the morning so I could enjoy a final couple hours with my best friend before he had to go. In those couple hours we laughed, we joked around, and had a real good time. We even had a water fight and I got so caught up in having fun that I kinda forgot that he was leaving…..that’s when his ride showed up. As soon as I saw that car, I felt scared. It was a tearful goodbye for his family. I said goodbye to him last. I gave him a hug and some encouraging words like “You show them what one of the Whetstone Quarter Knights is made of!†and “No matter what, never lose faith.†I walked to the end of the yard and watched the car drive off with him in it. When the car was out of sight, a tear ran down my face. I was able to stay strong until he was gone. I must have been standing there for five minutes just staring off at the street until his mom came up to me and gave me a hug. I decided to stay with his family a few hours longer and keep them company. After all, they’re practically my family too.
Rodge…I€m not sure what you’re doing right now…well…seeing as how it’s 11pm you’re probably sleeping but…you know what I mean!! You stay strong Rodge…and I’ll stay strong too. I’ll be sure to visit your parents and Char every now and then to see how they’re doing. We’re going to write you a lot of letters to! We’ll make sure you have plenty of reading material lol. We’re praying for you too. I slipped up a few times today. I saw something funny at work and couldn’t wait to get back and show you. Then I remembered that you weren’t there. Walking to the gas station isn’t as fun anymore either. I went on a walk with the speakers, listening to ICP and on reflex I stopped singing at Shaggy 2-Dope’s verse and looked to my side to find nobody there. It was just like out of Slayers when Gourry was taken by Hellmaster Phibrizzo. Lina was about to eat her breakfast, shouted out “This is all for me Gourry so no taking any…..†and then she remembered that he wasn’t there. Figures that I’d use Slayers as a metaphor huh. I guess it’s kinda pointless for me to continue typing anymore since you won’t be seeing this for 3 months. I guess I could always rewrite this in a letter.
I know that you’re going to do great in basic training. Remember that nobody is allowed to defeat you but me so you’d better show them all what you’re made of! Everyoneâ€s thinking about you. Especially me. We’ve been best friends for 10 years. We’re more like brothers than friends. Perhaps blood brothers since we’ve certainly shed each other’s blood on many occasions. After all the sparring we’ve done, it’s no wonder that Jorge and Dwaine could never beat us. We were the best! Especially as a team. Tag teaming against Dwaine and Jorge in wrestling games, tag teaming against them in real life, in Smackdown, Tribes, Halo…no matter what it was, as a team we were unstoppable. I can’t wait for you to come back so that we can team up again and once again be unstoppable. See you in December Rodge.
