The Tubes had a lot of good songs. Surprised you hadn't heard them before, as you seem up on so much older music. They were somewhat like Zappa or Devo in that they were big on concept and theater. The album Remote Control is one I remember fondly. They also did a song, White Punks On Dope, which was later covered by Nina Hagen and Mötley Crüe, and inspired the title of a punk compilation called White Dopes On Punk.
Couldn't agree more about the Zombies. Partly because I just flat out love their stuff, but also as a clear and strong influence on the psychedelia type stuff that was to come. Also, while I'm not the biggest Kinks fan, in terms of influence that is still felt today they may be getting sold a little short on that list.
Please don't get Duste started on the Gay Marriage topic. He's not even a brickwall on the topic, he's a fucking PrismaticWall (if you get the D&D reference). Best not to get his rampant wrongness going again.
