The Future of Red vs. Blue and Machinima
A topic of discussion over the past few months has been Machinima's decline, particularly that constructed with the Halo 3 game engine. I personally think that this is a fair question and should be considered. One of the problems is that Halo 3 machinima has become so much more made, mostly because its simply much easier to make. Forge and Theater modes have given us the ability to reach any camera angle in ease, in any environment you yourself created. Like with evolution, the weaker Machinimas will die out, while the stronger ones will prevail. Red vs Blue is just as good as its always been, and will continue that way. But look at DigitalPh33r for example. Arby n the Chief may be about to go. Darkspire hasn't done anything in a very long time, which is losing them viewers. PreGame Lobby will not be finished for Harabek's personal reasons. Others have other problems. There is simply some weeding out of these artists.
Red vs Blue is not like this I think. They were the ones who founded Halo machinima and have brought it popularity it never would have received. So, Red vs Blue will continue as always well into the next series. Perhaps they will use some elements of Halo 3: ODST in their machinimas. When Halo: Reach comes out, there is a strong possibility they will evolve their machinimas by using that engine. One thing we can say is clear about Red vs Blue is that they are innovative, and evolve with the series, never losing popularity, and never becoming any worse. Because of this adaptation that most machinima directors will have trouble with, Red vs Blue can be said to be truly professional, in ways that others aren't.
Nevertheless, I think we can look at Red vs. Blue and say that Rooster Teeth is not going anywhere, and as long as the demand for the best damn machinima still exists, RT will be there to satisfy are unwavering desire.
