Finally!!!!

Well its been nice outside today. I live in Kansas and dont know if any of you live around the midwest but its been hotter than hell here in kansas this summer. Think we've had over fourty days over 100 so far and we havent even gotten to the hottest part of the summer yet. It rained this morning and dont think it got above 90 today. Thought about getting out my sweatshirt i was getting chilly!

Still working on my tractor, 1931 JD D, one of these days i might get the rear end back together and start on motor, at least i hope. I really want to hear it run but thats a ways off I fear. Latez.

um just FYI, the true damascus method no one knows how to make anymore, and it was the japanese who folded their steel to work out the impurities. new age damascus is actually something called Wootz steel, and though it has some forms of functionality, it is mostly used for cosmetic purposes. and in any case, there is little need to fold steel nowadays, because the steels used to make knives and swords in the modern era are supperior to those of ancient times. but keep in mind that there are many different kinds of steels that work for different purposes. and hardness comes into effect all of the time too hard and they'll snap, too soft and they wont hold an edge. this site helped me out alot

i'd suggest charcoal, it's cheaper. but it has to be actual wood charcoal and not brickets. i use a subtraction method which means i cut them from plates and grind them down... but you have to buy the right type of steel, i'd suggest O1 grade tool steel, or 440C. there are a number of sites out there dedicated to that, start out small, and work on it, to practice just get some steelfrom ace hardware the knife you make from that isn't gonna be good for anything but throwing, but it'll give you a general idea of how to work with it.

of course they're steel, they just aren't at the right hardness.
