"I live in that box!"
Oh my. I just returned from the Emerald City Comic Con, a comic book convention in Seattle. And I had a conversation with the JHONEN VASQUEZ. I love this man's comics so much, it was such an honor to meet him, and i never thought i would get to. In case you don't know he's the author of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Squee!, I Feel Sick, Filler Bunny and other such things. He rarely makes public appearances and i figured he would be swamped with fans but he wasn't really. After getting some books signed, I gave him my eternal soul. He said "great, now we'll have fuel for the ride home." or something like that. my friend gave him his soul yesterday and he had said he'd use it to power his playstation. He was just standing around elsewhere the rest of the time and i couldn't help but notice he resembled Johnny in the way he stood with his hands on his backback, and always had headphones. But i had afew exchanges spread apart the rest of the day. One i asked him if he lived around here or where he was from and he pointed and said "I live in that box." It doesn't sound so funny now but you had to be there. I did have one real conversation later though. We talked about many things which i shant utter here. He told me some details about the video he's directing for Mindless Self Indulgence. And he told me some details on the new issue of Filler Bunny, and said how the first issue took 1 day, and the 2nd took 2 days without sleep. The new one is taking 2 days a page, because he's making it really well drawn with color and detail and epic lord of the rings type battles, just as a joke to all the people who complained when they heard he was drawing a new filler because they said he was just lazy, and he said he's just doing it to make them feel stupid. He said something like how ya always gotta mess with people. I asked him why he came to Seattle of all conventions to go to, and he said hes been here and likes it, he likes the weather (it was pouring rain that day), and it was a good excuse to come here, but he's always busy and he tried to cancel but it was too late so he came. He was also happy to have an excuse to use this spiffy umbrella he had. During the whole conversation he was balancing the umbrella on his foot, and almost kicked into someones head once accidentally but then caught just in time. Some other funny things were said, and he was an awesome guy. Often just because you like someone's work doesn't mean you'll like them, but Jhonen is an awesome, funny and nice guy. The end of the conversation was awesome for me because it felt like we were just talking casually. He gave me and my friends this respectful "Gentlemen." and i shook his hand, and he gave us a salute and walked away. I must say he had style.

I also talked to Sean Deitrich who wrote the comic Industriacide. That was awesome, Deitrich was a cool guy too. I bought an original painting for a cover that didn't get published for only eight bucks. They were asking for twenty but he was just really nice. I'll get that framed. Again there were some great things said that i shant utter here.

There were other encounters but this post is too long so let's just said i had a really good time, and this day was great. The day up till i got to the Comic Con at 2:30 really was terrible but i won't say why. But i am more happy about this than i could imagine.
