A girl asks you out. You say "sure i'm in a open relationship but i'm looking for more and she is not. but, i still like her." If she still is willing to date this will be her plan. (which involves falling into your plan)
she will try to be the better girlfriend and win you over from the other girl. Thus marking you as taken territory and securing her dominence over the other females around her.
in the end you got the girl and she has no idea how it really happened.
