The Wounded Man (Lament to War)
When rain fell on a wounded man,
When they said that "Hope is all we can",
He smiled and blinked, as he made himself calm,
As he lay, cradled, in a strangers arms.
"Come on inside" the stranger said,
"I'll lie you down upon my bed",
"You'll catch your death under these cruel stars",
As he lay, dying, in his protectors arms.
"I'm safe out here, for now" he said,
He sighed, "Death, I now will not dread",
He closed his heavy eyes to the storms,
As he lay, dead, in his lover's arms.
