Life Update
WARNING: Somewhat long and boring journal about my life ahead. Only proceed expecting the worst. Man, it has been a while since I've done one of these, so to save everyone some time. I'll make this a short as possible. Spent Christmas in California with a bunch of family. It was pretty great and I got some bomb new cleats for Ultimate. A couple days after Christmas I departed to Austin for New Years. I spent the first couple of days in Austin assisting Griffon set up The Fort for the big New Years party. Between drilling holes in metal cans and hanging lights all over the place, I was loving life! The party ended up a huge hit and tons of people showed. This party was easily the best New Years of my life! I then spent the rest of my stay in Austin working from the RT offices. That was great except Geoff is super distracting. The man needs to let me focus! I flew home from Austin late that Thursday night, just in time to unpack, do laundry and then pack again for my morning flight to Vegas. Why did I take an immediate trip to Vegas? Simple, my best friend's 21st birthday! That weekend was insane and I was awarded the nickname, Bait. That's all I can say about that though, Vegas's silly "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" rule. After that brilliant trip, I returned home for a few day before taking off to Santa Monica to play in the beach Ultimate tournament Lei Out. Running in the sand for two straight days is not something I recommend. My feet and calves were pretty much shot Sunday night which made my 6 hour drive home painful. The tournament was a blast though, even though I played with a bunch of guys and girls from Washington DC who I had never met. I love meeting new people! This past weekend I flew to Phoenix for another Ultimate tournament, New Years Fest, where I had the privilege to play with Zippo (a Johnny Bravo Alumni team). Playing with some of the best ultimate players in the world forced me to work hard to prove my talent. The team coasted through our first day 3-0 (beating last years tournament winners 13-11 in our 3rd game. This set us up as the number 1 seed in the Sunday championship bracket. We managed to win our first two games that day to advance to the finals, which we won easily 13-7. Going 6-0 felt great and the Ultimate shorts we won look fantastic! Unfortunately though, I didn't feel great as I dislocated my right shoulder in the finals. When we were up 7-4, the guy I was marking cut up line and got by me so I layed out to try and D (defend/knock down) the disc. In the process I landed wrong on my shoulder and as soon as I hit the ground, I felt it. I have no idea how to describe it properly. I just landed, felt my shoulder move somewhere it shouldn't (which surprisingly didn't hurt) and then while laying there, realized I couldn't move my arm. For a few seconds a I was super confused, but then I felt a ton of sharp pain and was able to move my arm again. I sat out a couple points before going back in and finishing the game. Lucky for everyone, the game was filmed so I might get to see the footage of the dislocation! For now though, I have to wait and keep my arm in a sling. This coming weekend I'm heading to San Luis Obispo to coach San Jose State University at a tournament. Should be fun as it's our first tournament of the semester. Oh, and I started school right after Lei Out. What's going on with all of you? tl;dr Traveled a bunch, had a blast, dislocated my shoulder. |
