YAY, she said YES!!!
So, a while ago, I posted a journal about my summer plans. Well, Friday, July 18, I asked my lady to be my wife and of course, she said yes.

I had bought the diamond June 20ish, but we both went to vacation. I was gone from June 29-July 6 and she was gone from July 3 - July 13, so I wasn't able to do anything for a while. Well, I had been planning and thinking and devising for quite some time after I got back to Boone. I decided that I would head down and talk to her father on Tuesday, which was extremely worrisome and stressful. Well, they gave me the blessing and all signs were go, but I had a plan that I wanted to wait until Friday.

Here is how it went down. Earlier in our relationship we had gone to a place on the Blue Ridge Parkway were garnets roll down the mountain and settle on a little gravel road off from the parkway. All you have to do is pull off and you can find them. Well for Valentine's Day this year, I had taken a couple of the garnets we had found our first trip out there and had them cut and polished and set in a ring and a pair of earrings for her. She absolutely loved that and we've gone back to the "garnet spot" numerous times just to look for gems and mess around, plus, she loves the views from the parkway and just being out there makes her happy.

So Friday we woke up and my plan was to head out to the "garnet spot" first thing, but she was hungry, so we went to Subway and got some food to take with us as a picnic (she had no idea that I had talked to her parents or that anything was going down, she's told me that she thought it wouldn't be until December that we got engaged). Well we stopped at a little trading post on the parkway for our picnic and she wanted to go into the little gift shop there are well. Normally I'm a very patient kind of guy who just kind of goes with the flow and if she wants to do something I'm more than happy to do it, because I like making her happy. But she said that I was not looking at anything and kind of hurrying her along, but she really didn't think anything of it, she just thought that i really wanted to go hunt for garnets.

Well, we left the gift shop and drove out the 'garnet spot' and got out. She stopped at one place to look and I told her I was going to walk a little further down and look there, she said, ok, and kept looking. When I sat down I was shaking from head to toe, but I got the ring out of my pocket (I had to keep her on my right side all day long so she wouldn't see the ring) and set it on the ground, open. Then I called her over, "Honey, come look at these that I found." She came over and started looking at the ground and was so intent upon looking at garnets that she didn't even see it at first. I held up the ring and her eyes got really large and she stood up, leaving me on one knee. She had tears in her eyes as I asked her to marry me and of course, she said yes. There was much hugging and she was so happy. That was about 2:30. We had reservations at an upper scale Italian place that she loves for dinner at 7:30 that I told her about afterwards and she was thrilled, because I had thought out not just the proposal, but after the fact as well.

It feels good to be engaged and she is so very happy. Now we have to start thinking about a wedding date, because that is the first question everyone asks us. Oh well. But, yay me.
